Google Web Designer: clickTag Setup and Tap Area Component Guide

Google Web Designer (GWD) is purpose-built for HTML5 ad production. As a result, it handles click tracking natively through components. The most robust way to implement exit clicks in GWD is by using the **Tap Area Component** instead of writing manual JS scripts.

1. Placing the Tap Area Component

Drag the **Tap Area** component from the Components Panel onto your canvas and scale it to cover the entire banner area (or just your CTA button). Ensure it is placed on the top layer stack.

2. Binding the Exit Event

Right-click the Tap Area and select **Add Event...**
Select **Tap Area > Touch/Click**.
Select **Google Ad > Exit (Exit Group)**.
Under Configuration, enter a unique receiver name (e.g. `exit-target`) and the fallback landing page URL.

When you publish the banner as a Google Ads package, GWD automatically configures the manifest settings and writes a fully compliant clickTag structure into the exported ZIP file.
